Pav joins BDM having spent 13 years at an international law firm and after being based in the Middle East region for over a decade. He specialises in advising shipowners, charterers, cargo interests and relevant insurers in the shipping, international trade and offshore energy sectors on both dispute resolution and transactional matters.

On the contentious side, Pav’s expertise includes charterparty and bill of lading disputes, ship arrests, shipbuilding disputes, ship sale and purchase disputes and casualty work. He has handled arbitrations before a number of arbitral bodies including LMAA, LCIA, ICC, SIAC, DIFC-LCIA, DIAC and ADDCAC.

In addition, Pav advises clients on commercial and transactional matters, including the drafting of charterparties, contracts related to offshore services, contracts of affreightment, sale of goods contracts, vessel sale and purchase transactions and shipbuilding contracts. Pav has particular experience of advising on contracts for the shipment, handling and transportation of Liquefied Natural Gas.

Recent cases include:

  • representing shipowners in arbitration proceedings in relation to termination of a series of high value shipbuilding contracts for offshore support vessels;
  • advising Dubai based charterers in relation to the drafting and negotiation of a 10 year time charter party and LNG storage and regasification agreement, with a contract value of approximately US$450m; and
  • assisting shipowners and their insurers in relation to a significant collision that occurred in Jebel Ali Port, UAE.
